Korean Festival :
Chilwol-chilsuk - A festive day in July(in Asian Calendar)

This is an event observed on the 7th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar in China, Korea and Japan.

Seventh of July is an event where a religious rite is held to the stars according to the legend where the constellations of the Herdsman and the Weaver, which are located at the far ends of the Milky Way Galaxy meet on the night of the seventh day of the seventh month once a year. There is a legend that says that the Herdsman and the Woman Weaver loved each other so deeply that it made the God of Heaven very angry and hence He made them cross the Galaxy to meet each other only once a year, which is on the seventh day of the seventh month.

On this day the magpies and the crows spread their wings to make a bridge for these two stars to cross which is called the Bridge of Ojack.
If we think about it, the meeting of the Herdsman and the Weaver is not possible because they are close to each other but it is possible because of the orbiting of the Sun and because in the zenith of a summer early evening our Galaxy and therefore the constellations of the Herdsman and the Weaver can be seen.

When you look up to see the sky on this day, you can see the Herdsman and the Weaver stars. The brightest star shining on the Eagle constellation which is located on the eastern part of the Galaxy is the Herdsman, and the brightest star on the Harp constellation is the Weaver.

But on the 7th day of the seventh month, these two stars shine brightly over our heads, when people see this, they say that it is because the Herdsman and the Weaver have met each other. Anyhow, on the early evening of the 7th day of the 7th month, the heat of the summer has slightly succumbed and the monsoon has overall died down.

But when rain falls on occasion, this is called Chilsokmul or the water of the 7th day. These are the tears that the Herdsman and the Weaver shed because they are so happy of meeting after one year. This is a day when you try new crop such as eggplants or red peppers. That is why people eat freshly picked seasoned eggplants and red peppers and seasoned vegetables on this day. Around this time of year, pumpkins, cucumbers and Korean melons ripen which is why many people have a custom of making fried pumpkin and it is custom of praying to the god of the seventh star.
